Mammals – A Care Guide

This module provides detailed care instructions for rehabilitating small mammals at FreeMe Wildlife in South Africa, covering dietary needs, behaviours, and rehabilitation techniques for various families including felines, canines, mustelids, and rodents. It addresses feeding habits, common injuries, threats, and species-specific handling recommendations. Emphasis is placed on providing suitable enclosures, enriching environments, and hand-rearing practices to support species-appropriate behaviours, especiallly for orphaned young. The guide highlights the importance of reducing human interaction to prevent imprinting and ensuring animals develop the necessary skills for eventual release.
